Welcome to our next fall color report from the CSWX team! Locally colors are popping with more colors filling the landscape across northern Illinois, the greens are evenly mixed with colors of yellow, orange, and reds. Overall we are at about 50-55% color and it's definitely a lot more progress on this date compared to last year's warm fall. There sure are some greener forests however that doesn't rule out colors everywhere you look! For the entire Midwest region you can look in much of Minnesota, northern half of Wisconsin/Michigan for peak colors this week, more cold is coming down and some areas where we are seeing peak could see snowflakes in the next week! The upcoming cold waves should help really move these colors along and bring the peak south into our local area, which should be in a week or two. Areas close to the Canadian border are past peak and therefore colors are now fading away as trees go to sleep for the winter, we will only be updating on Mondays and Fridays from now on so that there is time for reports to come through and whatnot. Until then, stay tuned! -TW
