Happy Wednesday everyone, fall colors are containing to progress across the Midwest with cooler temperatures prevailing, in fact the most widespread frost since spring shall come tonight with frost advisories in portions of eastern Iowa, southeast Minnesota, northern Illinois, Wisconsin, and parts of Michigan. Freeze warnings also exist in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan. These temps will set the stage for some rapid progression. However any freeze might damage leaves which might affect the peak color show some in these areas, otherwise weather is very favorable for color spread to continue into early October with some moderation in temps possible here, even then we shouldn't get too hot like we did last year, which significantly pushed back the peak dates and even stressed some of the trees. There have been some very isolated colors popping up in a select few trees in the local CSWX area, and roughly matches the 5-20% range that now all of our local counties are in. I went around a park near where I am and took pictures of the around 5-10% of very early trees that have started changing. Otherwise, enjoy the weather while it is here! -TW
